TO THE FAITHFUL OF STELLA MARIS PASTORATE,
This Sunday, we celebrate and acknowledge God's beautiful gift of motherhood. In a special way on Mother's Day, we are reminded to cherish the gift of life that we have received from our mothers. On this day, we show our appreciation for the many ways they have nurtured and cared for us with the maternal instincts and love that God has entrusted them with.
On Mother's Day, and throughout the month of May, we honor Mary, the blessed mother of Jesus, mother of the Church, and our spiritual mother. In most Catholic churches (and even in many Catholic homes), a “May Altar” is erected with a statue or picture of Mary, flowers, and perhaps candles. The altar stands from May 1-31 as a reminder of Mary’s importance in the life of the Church and in our own lives.
Additionally, our pastorate is celebrating May Crownings at each church: CTK was on May 4, IHM will be on May 11, and SP on May 18. Filiae Mariae girls lead the processions of children with flowers and will crown the statues of Mary with floral crowns to signify her queenship as the mother of Christ the King.
As we celebrate the vocation of motherhood, it is also important to remember that Mother's Day can be a difficult day for many people, including married couples struggling with infertility, parents who have lost children, those who have lost or are separated from their own mothers, and those who are facing unplanned or difficult pregnancies.
Finally, on this Mother's Day, let us remember to thank God for the gift of human life, and to do all that we can to support expectant mothers and their unborn
children.
To Jesus through Mary,
Fr. Chad M. Droessler
